The St. Louis Zoo

Home to over 14,000 animals and with free admission, the St. Louis Zoo is a favorite field trip destination for schools all around Missouri and Illinois. The Zoo attracts over 3 million visitors every year and is one of only a few zoos in America that is still free to everyone. Visit this link for more information.

The River’s Edge

One of the most popular areas is called the River's Edge. It's billed as an immersion exhibit – a place where you are immersed in the climate of the animals you are seeing. There are four continents represented. In the South American section, you can see giant anteaters, bush dogs, and Andean bears. Read about The Climatron in St. Louis, Missouri here.

In the Africa section, you will find painted dogs, black rhinos, and red river hogs. In the African Nile section, there are hippos, mongooses, hyenas, and cheetahs. In the Asian section, you'll see Asian elephants and Malayan sun bears. Missouri represents the North American section with a Missouri wetland to walk through and a Missouri River aquarium to view.

Historic Hill

This walk takes you through the oldest parts of the zoo. You will go inside the 1904 Flight Cage, and the 1920s Bird House. This is also where the Primate House and Herpetarium (snakes) are located.
